Old Fashioned Salt Water Taffy

Okay I just wanted to talk a little about salt water taffy. Most people don't even know why it has its name? Did you know that there is no salt in salt water taffy. Funny thing happened many years ago when a guys shop was flooded with saltwater from the ocean and all that taffy was ruined. So not wanting to toss it out and lose all that revenue he decided to name the damaged product Salt Water Taffy. Well it sounds funny but its true. The other thing that is interesting to me is that taffy was originally made with egg white. Now a days most places use coconut oil. The coconut oil taffy in my opinion does not taste nearly as good and dissolves twice a quickly. If you ever get a chance to try the egg white version of saltwater taffy you will taste just what I mean. It has such an amazing flavor and you will find savoring every second. Their is a decent shelf life of around six months but if this candy is kept in a air tight container the taffy will hold for almost a year.  There are a few places on the Oregon coast that offer this original treat that comes in over eighty six flavors. Everything from strawberry orange banana to hot chili can be tried at this little store on the beautiful Oregon coast called The Chocolate Frog. www.thechocolatefrog.org
